Ways to use ScreenBlurt
Let your agent talk to you.
ScreenBlurt's built-in MCP server lets Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor tell you out loud when it's done or needs you.
How it works
- 1Paste one setup prompt into your agent.
- 2Click Allow once in ScreenBlurt.
- 3Your agent speaks when it's done.
Agent (MCP)
An MCP server, built into the app.
Coding agents work while you look away. ScreenBlurt gives them a speak tool, so they can tell you when they're done or need a decision instead of waiting quietly in a terminal.
- Nothing extra to install
- The server ships inside the Mac app. Keep ScreenBlurt open, and your agent can speak whenever it needs to.
- Works with the agents you use
- Claude Code, Codex, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, and anything else that speaks MCP.
- /blurt for the last reply
- Type /blurt and hear your agent's last answer, rewritten for listening.
- You decide who can talk
- The first time an agent connects, ScreenBlurt asks you to allow it. The Agent pane lists every agent that has asked, and one switch turns them all off.
Set it up with one prompt
Paste this into your agent. It reads the setup guide, connects itself, and may ask you to restart it. Click Allow when ScreenBlurt asks, and your agent says hello.

FAQ
My Mac can already read text aloud. Why ScreenBlurt?
VoiceOver and Spoken Content are built in, free, and the right tools for getting around your Mac. ScreenBlurt doesn't replace them. It adds two things: natural, human-sounding voices that are easy to listen to for long stretches, and an MCP server so Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or any MCP client can talk to you. Screenshot also reads text you can't select, like text in images.
What data leaves my machine?
Only text. Screenshot images never leave your Mac: ScreenBlurt finds the text in them locally and sends just that. Whether it comes from an Agent, a Screenshot, or a Selection, the text to be spoken goes to our speech provider to make the audio. ScreenBlurt doesn't store the text or the audio, and the app sends no analytics. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Is this Mac only?
Yes for the soft launch. It's one universal app for Apple silicon and Intel Macs on macOS 14.0 or later. Speech is made in the cloud, not on your Mac, so the voices sound the same on all of them. Other platforms are not offered yet.
What is Agent?
Agent is one of three ways to use ScreenBlurt, and the one that sets it apart. An MCP server inside the Mac app gives Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or any MCP client a speak tool, so your agent can say text out loud through the app. To connect one, paste a single prompt into your agent; Cursor and VS Code also have one-click install buttons. See Agent (MCP) for the steps.
What do I need to set up?
The Mac app and a ScreenBlurt account with credits to spend. Nothing else to install: no Python, no API keys, no model downloads. Agent doesn't need Screen Recording or Accessibility, just your OK the first time each agent connects. Screenshot needs Screen Recording, which macOS applies after you relaunch ScreenBlurt. Selection needs Accessibility, which is optional. In the app's Permissions pane, click Allow… next to each one and ScreenBlurt opens the right pane in System Settings.
Can an agent run up my bill?
No. There are no overage charges: a read only plays if you have enough credits left, and speaking pauses when they run out. Agent reads do spend your credits, so ScreenBlurt asks agents to keep each message to a sentence or two. Each agent needs your OK the first time it connects, and one switch in the Agent pane turns all agents off.
How is listening time measured?
Each plan shows estimated Standard and HQ listening time plus the monthly credit count. Under the hood, 1 credit = 1 character at Standard; High quality costs 2.5× (rounded up). About 900 characters ≈ 1 minute of speech — estimates only; billing is by character, not by the clock.
What happens when I run out?
Speaking pauses until your next renewal or you upgrade. Allowances do not roll over.
Can I try it for free?
Yes. When offered, a new free account includes starter credits, with no credit card required. They don't expire. If you subscribe, any starter credits you haven't used are added once to your first paid month.
